Phoenix Teacher Sentenced to Prison on Child Sex Charges

The 38-year-old was charged with attempted child molestation, sexual conduct with a minor, and
attempted sexual conduct with a minor. According to authorities, these offenses occurred in Wooten’s
home in Mesa, AZ. On December 1, Wooten pleaded guilty to these charges and was sentenced to 20
years in prison and lifetime supervised probation.
Sexual Conduct with a Minor in Arizona
Sexual conduct with a minor is defined by AZ law as intentionally or knowingly engaging in sexual
intercourse or oral sexual contact with any individual who is under 18 years of age.
According to A.R.S. 13-1405, sexual conduct with a minor is charged in Arizona as follows:
-If the child is under 15 years of age, it is charged as a class 2 felony.
-If the minor is at least 15-years-old, it is charged as a class 6 felony.
-If the individual is the minor’s parent, stepparent, adoptive parent, legal guardian, foster parent,
teacher, clergymen, or priest, it is charged as a class 2 felony.
